Katya Rigatto attained her Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences, from Universidade Federal de Pelotas, College of Veterinary Science, Brazil.  She received her Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Physiology from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil.  At UFRGS, she studied theChanges in baro, chemo, and cardiopulmonary reflex control during chronic administration of L-NAME, an endothelial derived relaxing factor inhibitor.” After completing her Ph.D., she received a Postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, at Wright State University, to study the “Hormonal control of Blood Pressure in a new genetic strain.” Katya also has a wide range of abilities related to the administration and conduct of research programs. She has served as a laboratory manager, teacher, and researcher in the United States and Brazil. Katya also serves as a Professor at the Universidade Federal de Ciencias da Saude de Porto Alegre, Brazil. Currently, she is a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Florida and is using hemodynamic, molecular and biochemical analyses to study the brain signaling mechanisms involved in a novel therapy for monocrotaline-induced pulmonary hypertension. In the future, she intends to train undergraduate and graduate students in Brazil and help to form the next generation of scientists in her Country.
